Why Pray? - Part 2

When King Solomon was put on the throne in Israel and was given the opportunity to pray and ask for anything. What did he ask for? What Solomon asked for should be what we all ask for because all of us need the same thing Solomon needed. Wisdom. Understanding. In our lives we need wisdom to live our lives just as Solomon needed wisdom in his life. Why pray? We should pray because there are certain things all of us need and the only way to get those things is throught prayer. It is my practice to daily pray for four things: wisdom, the ability to love the way God loves, God's protection on my life, and I pray for the power of God. Why pray? Pray because that is the only way to get wisdom. Proverbs 4:7 says, Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. Now the only way to get wisdom is to pray. James 1:5 says, If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Here is a great promise! God is willing to give wisdom, His wisdom, wisdom that is from above to any one who asks! That's why we pray. We all must have wisdom and the only way to get it, is to pray. Are you a mother, or father? Pray for wisdom. Are you a leader? Pray for wisdom. Are you a child? Pray for wisdom. Are you a witness for Christ? Pray for wisdom. Are you a Christian trying to live right in this evil world? Pray for wisdom. Why pray today? The answer is simply we can't do without pray.

Why Pray? - Part 1

There are some compelling reasons why as Christians we should pray. The first reason that of obedience. God has commanded us to pray! Consider the following verses: Luke 18:1  And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 1 Thessalonians 5:17  Pray without ceasing. Philippians 4:6  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Jesus taught that praying was a clear duty of man. Not only should we pray, we ought to pray all the time. Prayer is a constant directing of our hearts to God about everything we need and want so that our mind is constantly  in touch with the Lord. A Christian should literally pray about everything. Our hearts should be so in touch with God that during our busy day we have a desire to still kneel before His throne. Not only are we commanded to pray at all times, but for all men. 1 Timothy 2:1  I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; And the Christians in Ephesus were commanded to pray for all saints and for Paul himself.  Ephesians 6:18  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel. So it is implied that we also should pray for all ministers particularly, as well as all the saints. Are you praying for your Pastor? Are you praying for your fellow church members?  Are you praying for those in authority? The scriptures are clear it is our duty as a Christian to pray! Why Pray?  The first reason is because it's a command and we must live a life of obedience to receive the blessing. There is no greater blessing then prayer itself!
